A Message from Mary D. Redd, LCSW ACSW Steinway President and CEO
Welcome! Thank you for visiting Steinway’s website.
Steinway has been providing human services with a human touch for almost 4 decades now and I am pleased to report that we have helped thousands of people of all ages and from all walks of life. Started in 1973 as a mental health provider, SCFS has become a large, multi-service agency with 17 programs in four New York City Boroughs.
Mental health care is and has always been SCFS’ largest service. Steinway has the capacity to provide community-based treatment to adults, children, adolescents and families with diagnoses that span the spectrum of mental illnesses.
We recently opened our first mental health clinic in the Bronx. It has doubled in size since 2009. And we are extending mental health services to Brooklyn by partnering with the Black Veterans for Social Justice. Steinway is proud to help those who served our country and their families. As always, we continue to specialize in providing mental health care to children, adolescents and families. Young people account for 55% of the consumers served by our clinics.
Case management services, our second largest program, serves adults with chronic and persistent mental illnesses and children and adolescents with serious emotional disabilities. Steinway recently began offering case management services to adults in the Bronx.
SCFS’ pioneering initiatives for people with or at risk for HIV/AIDS continues to expand. In addition to providing case management, advocacy, education and outreach, Steinway has an innovative HIV testing program that is reaching out to faith-based institutions. We make testing easier because Steinway is able to do HIV Rapid Testing.
SCFS has a historic commitment to treating the whole person as they journey on the road to recovery. Mental illness cannot be divorced from physical ailments, economic need and other factors. That is why we created the Steinway Food Pantry.
It is also why we serve older adults. The Grandparents Empowerment Movement or GEM program is for older adults raising the offspring of their children. Our NORC-type program at the Esplanade Gardens housing development provides recreational, educational and health-related programs.
You can get a complete picture of all that Steinway does by reading through our entire website. The sum total of our efforts helps every person we serve function at their maximal level.
