A Message from Mary D. Redd, LCSW ACSW
Steinway President and CEO
Welcome to Steinway’s website. It is filled with information about us. I hope
you’ll take the time to learn what we do for people.
Steinway Family and Child Services’ mission is helping troubled people reach
their maximum potential. Started in 1972 as a small mental health care provider
in Queens, we’ve grown into a multi-service agency with 22 programs in four
New York City boroughs. In 2006, we served 3,500 children, adolescents, adults
and families.
Our agency is committed to community-based care and our energies are focused
on New Yorkers living in the outer boroughs. Our efforts are also targeted to
those most in need including poor, minority and underserved populations. Only
6% of those coming to Steinway can pay for the services they receive.
Steinway programs focus on four major populations. Our largest service is
mental health care. Treatment is offered at free standing clinics and in public
schools. We also provide case management services for children and adults
who need comprehensive assistance on a day-to-day basis.
In addition, our prevention services stabilize families who risk having their
children placed in foster care and we provide residential programs for troubled
adolescents unable to live at home. Steinway is also a pioneer in serving people with or at risk of HIV/AIDS. Finally we have innovative programs for senior
citizens that keep people healthy and involved.
One of Steinway’s great assets is that after 25 years it remains a force for
enhancing human potential. Our commitment to people can be found on every
page of this website.
