Psychology Internship Program

Howard Beach Office

About Us:
We are an outpatient mental health clinic located near Kennedy Airport in Queens. Although under another name, this facility has provided services in Howard Beach and the surrounding areas for over 30 years. Our office is open Monday through Saturday. The Howard Beach office is part of a larger agency that has provides many types of social service programs throughout New York City. Our staff consists of clinical social workers, psychologists and psychiatrists. We provide individual, couple and family therapy sessions, as well as medication management to a wide range of diagnostic conditions. Our clientele is multi-culturally diverse and ranges in age from preschool through ninety.

The Internship Program:
This is a full-time internship. Interns will work a minimum of 1750 hours for the year that meets the requirement for licensure in New York State. Interns seeking licensure in other states may need to work additional hours to meet those states’ requirements. Interns receive a stipend, health insurance (medical and dental), vacation, sick time and clinic holidays.

Interns will conduct intake evaluations, participate in weekly intake meetings, provide child, adolescent and adult psychotherapy and, as needed, conduct psychological evaluations. Each year our interns develop and co-lead a therapy group of their choosing.

Interns will receive a minimum of two hours of face-to-face individual supervision with a licensed psychologist. Seminars will be provided for the interns at this office and they will attend staff trainings at the Main Office.

We realize that prospective interns will be applying with differing areas of experience. Therefore, we view the goals of our internship program as:

1 – Hone Current Skills including:

a-diagnosis
b-treatment planning
c-assessment
d-therapeutic interventions

2 – Develop new clinical skills such as:
