Steinway Child and Family Services has a long history of offering training to its staff.
The purpose of trainings is to help staff develop and enhance their proficiency in working with children, adults and families. The Training Department tailors the educational series to encourage the growth of professional and personal skills. Making use of the trainings may also help prevent burnout.
Specific areas of interest and challenges clinicians have identified in working with their clients are the basis of the trainings offered. This year we are offering Disruptive Behavior in Children, the Effects of Substance Abuse in Families, Working with Children Who Have Been Sexually Abused, and Working with clients who have Bi-Polar and Borderline Disorders. Annually we offer Cultural Competency, Child Abuse and Neglect, and OSHA/HIPAA as mandated by our funding sources. Everyone is expected to attend these three courses. All supervisors are expected to attend the Supervisory Skill Building series. Social Workers are expected to attend the Ethical Issues in Clinical Practice and the Play Therapy mini series. We have a roster of experienced and talented educators to provide staff the tools to give the most competent services to their clients.
All clinical trainings will be in the Large Conference Room (LCR), from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M. unless the booklet indicates otherwise. The mandatory trainings are at LaGuardia Community College. You will note that this year trainings are again offered in the Bronx, and at Howard Beach.
The Wellness Program will offer a Holistic Nutrition course every other Wednesday beginning September 17, 2008. Yoga will be offered weekly when the gym is set up. Additional exercise classes may be arranged.
Steinway is offering programs that can help you grow professionally and personally. Please make these trainings a part of your schedule.
Sincerely,
Patricia C. Vaughan
Director of Training
